The Top Flag Football Plays
What are the best flag football plays?
The best flag football plays are plays that give your Quarterback an easy read. The best flag football plays have built in answers against any coverage (split-field coverage beaters).
How many plays should a flag football team have?
A flag football playbook should consist of a set of core plays that are designed to beat any coverage. You will need man coverage beaters, cover 2 beaters, cover 3 and beaters. The less plays you have the better you’ll be at the plays you execute. A flag football team should have no more than 10 plays. Run those plays out of different formations.

Below are the top 7v7 flag football plays. These plays are great for all age levels and league skillsets.
𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 / 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

This play features a man beating concept to one side and a zone beating concept to the other (split-field coverage beater)! This is one of my favorite concepts for 7v7. It’s a great concept for all age levels and league formats.
𝗦𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁
1: Hitch route.
2: Corner route.
QB Read: 2 to 1.
𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭
3: Post- 6 yard route stem.
4: Trail route- 3 steps outside, plant outside foot and trail the post.
5: Push motion pre-snap, get vertical.
QB Read: 3 to 4. If you like the matchup throw to the 5.
𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐋𝐨𝐰 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝟑𝐱𝟐

This is what I consider an any-coverage beater. It works effectively against both man and zone coverage. The out-breaking routes are especially difficult to defend because defenders often have their backs turned to the quarterback and the football.
6: Vertical- slight fade.
5: Out route- 4 yard stem.
4: Corner route- 8 yard route stem.
2: Corner route- 8 to 10 yard stem.
1: In route- 5 yard stem.
QB Read: Look where you have the best matchup!
QB Read: 2 to 1.
If you like the matchup the 6 has take that shot. This is a great concept for all age levels and league formats. If the Center (3) is eligible in your league have the 3 run a quick out to the right.

The Top 6v6 Flag Football Plays
Below are the top 6v6 Flag Football Plays. These plays are great for all age levels and league formats.
Snag Passing Concept

Here’s a look at the Snap Concept out of a 2×2 formation. You have a vertical and post route combination to the left and a Snag concept to the right.
1: Outside release, vertical. 2: Post route- 8 yard stem. 3: Speed Out. 4: Corner route- 8-10 yard stem. 5: Snag route. QB Progression: 4 to 2 to 3.
Here’s a great man cover and cover 2 zone beater! This is great for middle school through adult leagues. This is one of those any coverage beater concepts. It’s a must-have play for 6v6!
𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝟕𝐯𝟕 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 (𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞)
This is a great zone coverage beater. It is also very good against man coverage. Flood is the ultimate zone beating pass play. It’s also great against man coverage. It’s a must-have concept!

1: Outside release, get vertical.
2: Post, 8 yards stem, break on the post.
3: Quick out (hot).
4: Out, 9 yard stem, break on the out.
5: Outside Release, vertical.
QB Progression: 5 to 4 to 3. Work high to low.

The Top 5v5 Flag Football Plays
Below are the most explosive 5v5 passing plays for flag football.
𝟐𝐱𝟏 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭
Switch releases give your offense an instant edge by creating confusion and free access off the line. The Scissors Passing Concept is great against Cover 2 Zone and Man Coverage.

1: Slant route.
2: Quick out route- 5 yard stem.
3: Post route- 8 yard stem.
4: Inside release, 8 yard stack corner route.
QB: 3 to 4 to 2 vs. Zone ( or middle of the field open / two safeties). If you like the match up on the 1, you can look there.
The Scissors concept is highly effective against Cover 2 because it puts the play-side safety in conflict. The stacked alignment allows you to incorporate a switch release, creating immediate separation for your receivers right off the snap.
The Switch Scissors Concept is one of the core plays featured in my Stack Attack System Playbook Bundle.

𝟐𝐱𝟏 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭
This concept is effective against both zone and man coverage. It’s what I call an “any coverage” beater.

1: Corner route- 10 yard stem.
2: Hitch route.
3: Short slant route- 4 yard stem.
4: Trail route- outside stem (looks like wheel), break inside follow the 3.
QB Read vs. Man: 2 to 3 to 2. If you like the match the 1 has, look to throw the corner route (vs. man coverage).
QB Read vs. Zone: 3 to 4 to 2- work high to low. When pressured look to throw to the 2.
This is a great passing concept for all age levels and league formats. I like it because the post, hitch, and trail routes naturally replace any blitzer or rusher.
Single Receiver Route Concept
In this video, I break down how to attack defenses using the single receiver side, including the types of routes and concepts that can create easy completions and big plays. You’ll learn how to identify favorable matchups, stress defensive coverage, and give your quarterback simple reads.
The single receiver side is one of the most powerful and underutilized parts of the passing game. Most defenses will overload the multi-receiver side of the formation, which creates great opportunities to attack the single receiver side if you understand how to use it correctly.
