The Snag Passing Concept for 5v5 is one of the best passing concepts for flag football because it gives the quarterback a simple, quick read while attacking multiple areas of the defense. It usually creates a triangle read, with a short route, a flat route, and a sit/corner-style route that stretches defenders horizontally and vertically. This makes it very difficult for zone defenders to cover everything, especially when they have to defend space instead of just matching up man-to-man.

Snag is one of the best concepts in football because it is great against any coverage. It’s particularly good against man and cover 2 zone. This concept isn’t as good against cover 3 zone. However, most flag football defenses don’t play cover 3 zone (in 5v5).
1: Post route- 4 yard stem (short post).
2: Speed out. Sit between hook and curl defenders (it it’s zone).
3: Corner route- stem at 10 yards.
4: Snag route- if zone, sit between hook & curl defenders.
QB Read: 3 to 2 to 4. Progression can change based on the coverage.

Snag is also great because it gets the ball out fast, which helps neutralize a good pass rusher. The quarterback can quickly identify leverage, throw to the open grass, and keep the offense on schedule. Against man coverage, the spacing and route combinations can create natural separation. Against zone, it forces defenders to choose who they want to cover, leaving another receiver open. Itβs simple to install, easy for young quarterbacks to understand, and effective in almost any flag football format.
